Dr. Jim Pender

Dr. Jim Pender is partner at Byrnes, Pender & Associates, a consulting firm offering a range of practical solutions designed to enhance organizational effectiveness through building employee engagement. He consults extensively on the design, implementation, and administration of Employee and Family Assistance Programs. His specialties include managing the impact of mergers and acquisitions, assisting organizations through downsizing, developing performance management systems, conducting harassment investigations, dealing with substance abuse, and designing wellness programs.
Jim has completed four degrees including a Master of Social Work (Clinical Specialization) and a Ph.D. in Educational Research. He is a registered social worker (RSW) with the Alberta College of Social Workers and is a member of that organization’s Clinical Specialty Registry and the Private Practice Roster. A Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP), Jim also is a qualified Myers-Briggs (MBTI) practitioner and holds an International Certification as an Alcohol/Drug Counselor (ICADC). Jim is also trained in the use of Human Synergistics instruments, measuring individual and group effectiveness.
Jim is a deeply respected community member who has been active on the Boards of the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, The Alberta Law Foundation, Catholic Family Services, and Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre, and the Family Resource centre. Jim has worked directly in the transportation, agricultural, educational, oil and gas, and professional services sectors. He has held senior human resources positions in the areas of Organizational Development, Performance Management, and Employment Assistance.
Jim’s doctoral thesis, Restless Hearts: The Search for an Experience of Spiritual Authenticity in the Lives of Five Seekers, is a fascinating exploration of the spiritual journey. Jim lives in Calgary, Canada.
